The Great Marble Canyon Tradeoff

A few things about last night. 1 we are no longer vegetarians on this trip. 2 new friendships may come with an unexpected tax. 3 Navajo people are amazing and inspiring. 4 our megaphone is broken after one show. Alex, the Funderpower broke before we used it on the road. 5 DTA stands for Don't Trust Anyone and is the new mantra of the trip.

In conclusion, DTA.

In the first pic below is my throwup (Marcus') from 1.5 turkey sandwiches, a corndog, and a hot dog, all received as pre-dumpster foodgifts. Throwup is aged approximately 15 hours.

Second pic, Sean and Jimbo's house from the 89A.

Typical Dinner Indian Style

Tonight we left The Grand Canyon and rode 35mi to Cameron. Like most of the next leg, this city is in a native reservation. Looking forward to this very much.
Our dinner tonight is typical. We are having quinoa that have been soaking for 8 hours, with cheese in a tortilla. Also tonight we are cooking on the side of a touristy hotel, where we have found two plug outlets for our phones and light. YES!

Hello Everyone Wondering How We Are Doing!!!

I (B-Rad), was installing my fenders today outside Macy's when Marcus and I began talking about doing a band/bicycle tour of LA with our tricycle. I then went into a giant monologue in which I was enacting what I would tell people in the future. It went like this: "We rode all day long from Echo Park to get here in Santa Monica to ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!!!" and so on and so forth until I came to this line: "Feed us we're hungry!" At that point an employee of Macy's that was sent out to saw some weeds on the side of the building down piped in and said, "I'm going to throw out some potatoes if you all want them." In fact he said it so lightning fast that neither Marcus nor I had time to really respond with our usual , "YES!". We really like free stuff.

Last Friday we spent the day at Slide Rock State Park (check out some of these pictures!!!) We cooked this amazing meal of beans and awesome and the park rangers began to get antsy toward seven o'clock. They told us twice that is was near closing time. The last ranger to tell us they were closing up was this young skinny tall guy with tattoos. I had two healthy onions we got from the info shop in Prescott strapped to my Bob trailer. He asked where we got the onions and I politely told him. As we were pulling out he came out of the Forest Service shed with a bag full of plums and asked if we wanted them. His friend had grown them outside Clarksdale. Hey! Thanks for the plums! I really can't say when I've had better plums!!!!

So tonight we have a toss up. We spent too much time becoming more technically savvy and not enough time riding out of Flagstaff. If this was a choose your own adventure book we would have come to one of those pages that say, "If you want to ride all night through the dark and see the sunrise at the Grand Canyon turn to page TIRED. If you want to try and explore more of the mis-adventures of the Flagstaff radicals turn to page DRUNK. If you want to spend the night reading about your new 4-track toy that we are going to make albums on the fly across the country with turn to page AWESOME."

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

P.S.--> We are better than ever. And that is the truth.

Prescott Carlos!

I just wanted to say huge thanks and send infinite smiles to Carlos of The Hub in Prescott, AZ. Its a classic story-
How We Met Carlos.
We were leaving the Prescott Von's at 10p when we notice another biker with a Bob trailer similar to ours. We stopped, without really knowing what to say. Haha! All we knew is that there was about to be some bike love! Anyhoo, Carlos invited us to go dumpstering with him. He then invited us to stay at his house. He then stuffed is full of awesome quinoa stir fry and good conversation. He then showed us our private bedrooms for the eve. He then took us to the Prescott bike co-op, The Hub. Wow!
Its inspiring to experience that kind of bike love! It fills us with a lot of hope.
You are a wonderful person. Thanks again, we'll never forget it!
Also we'd like to say HOWDY to The Catalyst, Prescott's incredible underground info store. Good people there too! Thanks Riyanna (sp?) for the quinoa flakes and kind words!
Btw, Carlos makes these awesome stickers we put on our bikes...

How to not die part 6 of 90

We have climbed a mountain on a 12in shoulder of highway along the CA60, burned our brains in 118 degree Mojave and Colorado Deserts in a variet of ways (mid-day-solar-oven-people-cooker camp above), and rested our pretty little heads 12ft from 90mph eighteen wheelers near Hope, AZ. Since we have been molded, pressed and reformed, its time to complete the TEMPERING process and go swim.
We rode a leg of 160mi over 30 hours and made it to Tempe, AZ outside Phoenix. We are safe, sharp, and in good company at a place called The Bike Coop (below), as awesome as any other coop but run out of a backyard of a 3 bedroom house by residents John Ryan, Allison, and Daniel! We are in the Phoenix area until our show Monday night at Trunk Space! So excited to play!
Especially after last nights rain. We rode our bikes through 12in deep lakes at flooded Phoenix intersections only to arrive at our stop to find the trailer bag completely flooded and everything inside it soaked...The best part - the water came from our punctured 5gal water bag! An inside job! Well we are airing out our amp today in the normal 120 Phoenix sunlight.

Happy 5th!

The first of many magical days began with us waking up on a "for sale" Venice beachhouse patio. A man on the boardwalk nervously replied "Happy 5th" to another's "good morning". We dunked ourselves in the Pacific and rolled out through LA with Nicole... Quick, sad goodbye...we rolled through the industrial stench of the Alameda area and made it to meet Drew who had prepared the route to Riverside from VB. I made it in rough shape, BRad was in great shape and went to the awesome Cicledelics Mustache Ride. I crashed out and awoke to many many Funderstorm LA fans... All I have to say about our fans is that if I saw them at our show, I'd be their fans! I love all of you and you are unparalled anywhere! Finish the ridiculously good show (below), inhale pad Thai, sad quick goodbye #2, and crash at Jasons! Thank you sir! Happy 5th!
